Golf course photographer vs golf photographer
OK, so you wanna be a golf photog. Does that mean you want to shoot the players or the playing fields? Would you rather be lugging around three bodies and five lenses inside the ropes for 10 hours straight, or straining your back with a tv camera in unnatural positions (see photo) at the mercy of tour professionals, or would you like to have a whole golf course to yourself (and maybe some greenkeepers, grouse and deer) at the crack of dawn? Would you rather hone your aggression or your sense of calm? When you see the sun approaching the horizon, would you rather think ‘this is the magic hour’ or ‘this is deadline hour…and I have a truckload of photos to file’? All the while, your golf course photographing mate is out there breathing the fresh sea air, listening from the top of the dunes as the waves crash down below on the beaches.
Better to be a golf course photographer
There is nobody who can convince me that the golf photographers who cover the European Tour, PGA Tour or LPGA Tour events have enviable existences. Because no matter who they’re running after, that person can never be as stunningly beautiful as the greatest golf courses in the world!
